your other life your death
still together the three of us
here in my room
seashells a crystal suspended
there in your room
music breathing the clock
in your room yellow with flowers
in my room under a silver lamp
ourselves each other
writing trying to write
the hour hands circle
saying tomorrow tomorrow
saying now will be yesterday
till it stops
dressed all in black
what was it we mourned for
wanting some other now
wanting to know that we lived
this was living
this is how we love
this weave this interplay
of you and you and me
this reshaping of the space
in which we live
the space that lives in us
this meeting place
of here and there
the living and the dead
this me-and-you-and-you-together
changing me and you and you
what is it that's died
not your poems
that talk with your cut flint voice
not the warm surprise of your face
you were there today beaming
lolling against the bar when i walked in
hair longer smile slightly younger
than when last i saw you
what is it that's died
not your laughter rich and wicked
as chocolate tart in bed
for breakfast
your heart full running
you bolted out of the world knowing
the more you live the more you die
and it was all inside you
inside me yesterday today
here there now then
living dying
