This drawer like a cemetery
retains my guilt. Letters
in faded writing still possess
a flavour of the past
which can't absolve me nor can I recall
the face behind these old endearments and
the anguish mentioned. It seems
I stole a lover, was unfaithful,
left with no warning - actions
of years ago and other lands.
At one stage I'm accused of making love
to a couple, telling neither: if so
what harm was done and did it last?
I visit now this landscape of remorse,
foolhardy or compassionate,
invite the wronged to come and have it out
amicably some evening over supper.
