curved and smoothed by steady flow.
Springs, clips, screws. All contained
in a precise frame bearing a breath
of the milling machine
which gave the wing-dark steel
a silk surface live to the touch.
The grip is rosewood, shaped
and polished exactly to the hand.
Small geometric details
link straights and arcs minutely,
garnish with mechanical art,
etch the proud maker’s name
beside the long serial number.
This is a useful tool. Transportable
and easily applied when there is need
to kill or maim or paralyse.

as no surprise.
